Temperature Control In Poultry
Chickens are warm blooded and so they cannot adjust their body temperature relative to atmosphere. So we have to take care of their body heat.
The temperature of a newly hatched chick is about 103.5 deg F
Male chickens have a slightly higher body temperature. Also when chickens are active, their body temperature increases. Generally chickens are highly productive at 55 to 65 deg F
Good management during the first 48-72 hours of a chick's life is essential to maximise immunity, performance and livability. If the chicks get too hot or too cold, even for a short period of time, development of their immune system, thyroid and gastro-intestinal tract can be affected, leading to reduced feed conversion and growth, ill health and mortality.
